What is Taiwan Toastmasters Club?

Taiwan Toastmasters Club (yep, that's our official club name!) is a group of young and young-at-heart professionals that meet twice a month to practice public speaking. 

Our members are from all over the world. Some were born, raised, and educated here in Taiwan. Some grew up elsewhere before settling down in Taipei. For others, Taiwan is one home among several.

The one thing our members have in common: we love to challenge each other, put each other on the spot, and provide constructive feedback, all in Chinese AND English!

What happens during a typical Taiwan Toastmasters Club meeting?

Meetings are divided into two halves. During the first half, three club members present prepared speeches of about 5-8 minutes each. Speeches can be about anything! In the past, we've heard speeches about dragon boat races, challenges in the workplace, psychology, branding and patent law, shoe sizes, middle school crushes... the list goes on! We take pride in our energetic, creative, and passionate speakers, who seize every opportunity to take risks and surprise us.

After a short intermission, members regroup for an impromptu, "on-the-spot" speech session, followed by individual evaluations of the prepared speakers.

After evaluations and announcement, we wrap up and go out for "Second Rounds!"

What makes Taiwan Toastmasters Club different from other Toastmasters clubs?

Taiwan Toastmasters Club has several characteristics that help it stand out from other clubs in Taiwan and globally.

1) We are a bilingual club. All of our members are capable of speaking to an audience in both Chinese and English. Our standards for our Chinese-language meetings and English-language meetings are the same. 

2) We are an international club, with members from all over the world.

3) We are energetic, passionate, and forward-thinking. Public speaking is the substance of our meetings, but our greater purpose is to share, learn, and take risks.

Should I join?

We welcome all prospective members to come attend two meetings (one in English, one in Chinese) as a guest to see what we're about!

You should consider joining Taiwan Toastmasters Club if:

1) You have a strong urge to improve as a public speaker.

2) You love meeting forward-thinking people from Taiwan and beyond.

3) You like to challenge people and be challenged. 

How do I join?

Once you've attended our meetings and have decided that Taiwan Toastmasters Club is right for you, we'll start discussing with you individually how to become a member. New members typically have to pay an annual club fee in addition to a one-time processing fee.

What does membership include?

Members of Taiwan Toastmasters Club receive access to official Toastmasters learning materials, and can deliver prepared speeches to advance along the official Toastmasters curriculum. Members also receive a subscription to the official Toastmasters magazine, as well as access to internal club communications and materials.

Dates: second and fourth Tuesdays of every month
